Somatic yoga is a movement therapy, a way of re-educating the way the brain senses and moves muscle. It is incredibly subtle and a powerful way of retraining the nervous system, dealing gently with injury and releasing trapped emotions and energic blocks from the physical and mental bodies. It has really been invaluable for me during times of recovering from injury and trauma as it repatterns the brain’s healthy energy flow and gently releases body tension, like no other yoga form. It gets to where other yoga modalities cannot, especially with motor neuron illnesses, nerval problems and extreme fatigue or body restrictions due to injury or just wear and tear. In this class, I combine a gentler hatha yoga, where poses are held and breath is deepened, with Somatic yoga routines for specific body parts, which vary with each class or individual needs. This class ends with a relaxing yoga nidra, as rest is needed after somatic yoga movements to give the body a chance to receive and assimilate the new healthy pathways the somatic experience brings to the body. This is truly a very nurturing yoga therapy class. One to one course of 3 is 130euro (online or in person) Workshops for groups also available for community groups businesses, special needs groups and the active age. The word “yoga” is derived from the Sanskrit word “Yui”, meaning “to join” or “to yoke” or “to unite”. As per yoga scriptures, the practice of Yoga leads to the union of individual body and consciousness with that of the universal consciousness, indicating a newfound harmony between the mind and body, mankind and nature. Hatha yoga is a branch of Yoga. The Sanskrit word “Hatha”, literally means “force” and thus alludes to a system of physical postures (asanas), breathwork (pranayama), and deep states of relaxation (yoga nidra) My hatha yoga classes incorporate all the qualities of a traditional yoga class, along with an element of energy medicine yoga flow techniques. I pay particular attention to the individual’s body’s needs and restrictions, to allow each student to participate in the group class wherever they are at with their yoga practise. After a hatha yoga flow class, expect to feel gently stretched, deeply relaxed both physically and mentally, feel your energetic body reactivated to a place of healthy flow, energized and with a newfound feeling of deep peace and joy. This class is for everybody and I use chairs and props for students with restricted movement or health conditions. I offer a safe space where everyone is met exactly where they are at in their physical bodies. Classes vary in length from 1 hour to 1hour 30minutes, depending on group or clients’ needs. One to one sessions are available online or in person if you would like a course tailor made for your specific body requirements. This is very beneficial if you have an injury or condition that needs that extra bit of care and attention. It will also give you the tools to set up a safe practise for yourself at home. Face yoga is a series of facial exercises, where you intentionally isolate and tone the facial muscles. It’s a natural alternative to cosmetic facial procedures. The benefits include increased blood circulation to the face and neck, facial muscles are strengthened and lifted and there is a reduction of sagginess, dull complexion and fine lines. Through the facial yoga exercises, the face becomes reinflated with new life, freshness and a youthful healthy happy glow. Combining the lifting techniques and acupressure facial points activation, I learned on my facial rejuvenation training, with facial yoga exercises, somatic movements for head and eyes, face, neck and shoulders, pelvic floor breathwork and a relaxing yoga nidra to finish, this workshop promises to leave you feeling fresh-faced and deeply relaxed with a newfound confidence. It will also give you tips and tools to help you create your own facial yoga practise to use regularly in the comfort of your own home. Let’s face it, we love to look radiant and stress free.
